When I was invited to write a weekly blog here on Forum Aristico I was so very touched and my mind started to spin trying to figure out where to start, what to write, what to say.

I made plans, I prepared what I was about to say, but for some reason it wasn’t really working for me.
So I decided to talk from my heart, because that’s what I love to do and I hope you’ll follow me and my many thoughts in this new adventure. Students often ask me what is the best acting technique…well what I always tell them is that there are so many different acting techniques out there, you have to find what’s right for you, what works for you!
There’s no “magic style”.

You have to find what makes you feel stronger as an actor, what makes you feel connected to the work, and honest to the character that you’re bringing to life.
I had the honor to study under the guidance of many amazing artists, and to come in contact with many different methods. I took something from everyone; I grew with each and every one of them, even when I thought that maybe “that” approach wasn’t right for me.
I ended up falling in love with the Method, a technique really created by Constantin Stanislavski and that was then brought forward by Lee Strasberg here in the United States.
Today though I just want to share my approach on some simple but fundamental things that I believe would help every actor.
I always say to my students “Keep your eyes open!”…we live in a fast pace world, where we are always on the go, always on the phone either talking, texting or surfing the net, always on our computers…I feel like we are starting to lose touch with reality and reality is what actors need.
Look around! Look at the person sitting next to you in the subway, look at the couple hugging on a bench in the park, look at the old man playing chess, look at the young executive running to make a deal…look around…those are the people you might have to play one day…those are the people you will be able to get your info from.
And very important…Look at yourself! Get to know You.
Understand what triggers what emotion in you, listen to your body when you’re full of joy, listen to your body when the tears stream your face.
You have to know who you are first, before you can bring to life other people.
Acting has been a passion of mine since I was a little kid and I feel so lucky to be able to wake up in the morning and do what I love, and to be able to share this love with others.
This is about a passion. A passion that makes you feel alive and ready to change the world.

Maria,
Those are wonderful words!
I totally agree with you, it's so important that you get to know yourself first to communicate those feelings to others...
I can't wait to read more!
