Maria Riboli on "This is It" E-mail

I went and see the very talked about “This is it”, the documentary with the last footage of Michael Jackson rehearsing for his concert, right before he passed away.

It was very touching.

The documentary is extremely well done, it doesn’t fall into easy and cheap drama, it just shows the rehearsal process, the behind the scenes of this amazing production that was going to stun the world.

You see MJ rehearsing the songs, the choreography, giving notes and supporting and inspiring everybody around him.

People like him come around maybe once in a life time, and I feel blessed to have witnessed his genius.

The music was in his veins, the rhythm was in every movement he took.

I was really amazed at how much the beat was inside him. He would move every single inch of his body, in corky movements, but in a way it almost looked like there was a light coming out of his limbs…

More than once I had to remind myself that I was watching a 50 year old man…

That concert would have been an incredible one, but an extremely demanding one, for everybody involved.

I noticed also the audience in the movie theater, I saw people in their 60’s, young teenagers, and everybody in between, all different races, and everybody at the end clapped one more time for MJ.

It was very touching.

I truly enjoyed the whole documentary but there was one moment that made me teary.

Michael was rehearsing with his guitarist, Orianthi Panagaris, and he was guiding her through the music, asking her to hold a very high note with her guitar, he then added “This is your moment to shine, and we’ll all be there with you.”

I found that comment so generous and so beautiful, it gave me chills.

Michael comes across as a gentle soul and a musical genius. He was able to hear or see things before everybody else and he was able to bring emotions to life, with the sound of his voice, the movement of his body.

This movie is about Michael, and nothing else…

His talent.

His beautiful music.

His incredible dancing.

That was and always will be Michael Jackson for me.

I used to Love Michael jackson.I was not that interested in seeing the movie til I read your blog just now.
I remember juggling and dancing to "off the Wall, and totally being absorbed by the music. Then my first solo oiece as a solo artist was to Thriller, with glow int he dark balls.
But I eventually grew out of my taste for his music, and because cynical of his strange changes, both physically and emotionally. he seemed like a disturbed emotionally stuck man.
I did not begrudge him his ideals ever or doubted what he thought was important. then I saw a live show of TV in japan, and he choreographed a silly teary eyed breakdown in the middle of a song. And then I saw the same concert a month later, and he did exactly the same thing. that made me question his artisitic committment..

But I am happy to see that he would have gotten his act together and created something wonderful at this point in his life
But i don;t like to hold judgements against peo
