Do your research as much as you can about the play or the script you’ll be auditioning for.
Ask if they can send you sides to prepare, if they ask you for a monologue be sure to bring something that will show the casting crew that you can fit in the production.
The day of, find some time to relax, to focus, to meditate.
If you can, arrive at your audition a little early so if it’s a cold reading you’ll have time to go over the sides.
Be prepared with a headshot and resume (and always have extra copies with you). Dress the part if you can…that doesn’t mean that if you’re auditioning for a nun you should show up in your Halloween costume, but maybe you can wear a long black skirt and a dark long sleeves top.
Always stay away from graphic t-shirts and big logos.
Ladies if you have long hair be sure it won’t cover up your face and your eyes during the audition!
Be professional and warm! From the moment you step into the room your audition starts, everything you say and do is taken into consideration, so smile and be friendly!
After the usual few second chit chat you’ll be asked to start your audition with the usual “Whenever you’re ready…” you should have done your preparation before stepping into the room, you cannot expect to ‘get there’ during your monologue or scene, but now do take a moment (and with a moment I don’t mean 5 minutes) but do take a breath let go of everything and bring out your character…it’s your time, don’t rush!
Stay in the moment!
Stay connected and …have fun! Because acting is fun and the day you’re not enjoying doing it anymore that will be your day to move on…
Always give your very best, you might not be right for the character they are looking for, but if you do a great audition people will remember you and most often than not something will come out of that audition.
Trust yourself and your work.
