Actors need to learn to hit the ‘reset’ button many times in their lives.
Every time a show ends, every time a movie wraps, every time you don’t get that audition you wanted…you have to be able to erase that moment and start again.
 |
We keep starting from scratch and that can take a tool on you.
You grow in every situation, you take something away with you from every experience, but then you’re back in the pool, that is more like an ocean and you have to start swimming again for that island.
I’ve seen many actor gave up and it’s always sad, I saw people with so much talent being defeated by this business…it’s the natural selection…
Once a teacher of mine, many years ago told me “If people around you, not your family and friends, keep telling you that you’re good…then don’t give up, your time will come!”…

| You have shoot high, you have to study very hard, you have to be ready to ‘reset’ many times…but if you feel that passion inside…don’t give up…maybe you’ll never win an Oscar, but you’ll have a happy life doing what you love, at all different levels…so, don’t give up…your time will come! |

i saw an interview of a member of one of my favorite bands - Deerhoof.
the interviewer asked him how the band had evolved over each of their albums. he thought for awhile and said he didn't really think he had evolved. they started over every time, not trying to build on what they had done before, but trying a direction they had not explored.
that is a little tangential to this because I think building on what you have done before is very important, but I also think this willingness to take everything apart and begin again is important for making a broad base of abilities.
