Finally summer has arrived in NYC, and as usual it is bringing a lot of great music events; among many to not miss is the concert of best selling Italian singer Lorenzo Cherubini Aka Jovanotti, who can be seen at Nublu, on 68 Avenue C (between 4th & 5th street),
throughout July and the beginning of August.

Jovanotti is an icon of the “new Italian music”. In his very early career, in 1988, with his hit song “Gimme Five”, he catapulted from a regional known radio DJ to a teen music sensation. Since then, intelligently , with hard work and dedication; he changed his music style throughout the years gradually going from rap to disco and finally approaching Pump (described byhimself as Traditional Italian Funk music), but also created his unique trademark style, based on original, simple but profound lyrics. Today in his works, Lorenzo, addresses political, religious and philosophical issues.

He published 11 albums and released a greatest hits record in Spanish and very successful has been his collaboration with other international artists.
Mr. Cherubini brings to New York, Italian music, but not the usual Italian style, mostly known to the American public, but a more international sound that mixes even classical arrangements with Ska style (a music genre that generated in Jamaica a precursor to Reggae).

His concert on June 29 started with a tribute to Michael Jackson with the “Jovanotti style” version of the Jackson’s hit “Wanna Be Starting Something”, and continued with Lorenzo’s classic hit “Penso positivo” (I think positive) which was followed by tracks from his latest work “Safari” (2008); but the audience was captured and went wild when he sang, and dedicate to his wife, the song “Serenata Rap” (Rap Serenade) and closed the concert with the more international known “L’Ombelico del Mondo”.

I definitely recommend to go to see Jovanotti’s concert, at Nublu, where you can enjoy a couple of hours of good and energetic music from one of the most prolific and fun Italian artist.
Well done Lorenzo!
