                                    Juntos (United) March 12 & 13 (3 concerts)

                                  Three premieres and repertoire highlights

AGDT, the critically acclaimed modern dance company headed by Mexican-born Artistic Director Annabella Gonzalez, presents Juntos, its Spring Series at the Manhattan Movement Arts Center on Friday, March 12, at 8 p.m. and on Saturday, March 13, at 3 p.m. and at 8 p.m.  The Series includes three world premieres and dances from the Company’s repertoire.  Many works reflect AGDT’s Latin classicism or provocative mix of European and American classical music with a Latino flavor.

A highly varied program includes abstract, theatrical and comedic dances that challenge and engage audiences.  The premieres are Chrome Waters 2, a duet by Annabella Gonzalez based on “bathing” inside a chrome bathtub frame set to romantic music by Franz Schubert, Blue Ink, a dynamic duet by Maxime Steinman With guest Zalman Raffael to music by Jogujo Circuit and The Passage by Ms. Gonzalez, a brightly colored group dance with strong rhythmic music by New York City composer Stefania de Kenessey.   The beautiful dancers are Lucia Campoy, Jorge Fuentes, Ms. Gonzalez, Marcos de Jesus, Heather Panikkar and Eric Vlach.

Repertoire by Ms. Gonzalez includes Ballad, an early work in which a woman unexpectedly emerges from inside an orange bean bag to Mexican pre-Columbian instruments and Encuentros (Encounters), an acrobatic and comedic male trio to marimba music by modern Mexican composer Max Lifchitz.  Also on the program is Liebes Tanz (Love Dance), a popular quartet with love songs by Ludwig v. Beethoven.

”Annabella Gonzalez is a National Treasure” declared Bernardine Jennings of Attitude and El Heraldo described AGDT’s work at an international festival in Chihuahua, Mexico, as “Poesia en movimento” (Poetry in movement).  Juntos is made possible in part with public funds from The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and from the Fund for Creative Communities, supported by the New York State Council on the Arts and administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.  Additional support is provided by Mayab Happy Tacos.

Tickets are $20 or TDF vouchers and $12 for students, children, seniors and groups (10+).  The Manhattan Movement Arts Center is located at 248 West 60th Street (between Amsterdam & West End Avenue).  Reserve your tickets at 212.722.4128 or book on line at www.theatermania.com or call them at 212.352.3101.  For additional information, check out a dvd and color photographs on the Gallery page of our website at www.agdt.org.
