Celina Clavijo Kashu, holds a MD in architecture and she became particularly interested in Japanese ceramics during her postgraduate studies at the Kyoto University in Japan.
In 1983 she joined the Kyoto Municipal Research Institute of Traditional Industries for studies mostly centered in glaze formulation. For more than ten years she concentrated on painting, working specially with the Japanese sumi (black ink) painting techniques, much used for the blue & white ceramic under glaze painting.
After opening her ceramic workshop, she decided to attend the Ishikawa Prefectural Kutani Ceramic Training Institute famous for her over glaze painting three-years curriculum. She graduated in 2005.
Currently she is attending a training course for wheel throwing of Japanese table ware at the Shiga Prefectural Shigaraki Ceramics Training Institute.
She has widely exhibited panting & ceramics, won prizes for her works and written books on ceramic & painting and cooking.
